From the Screen to the Page: March 2025 Book Recs

March was extremely hectic and therefore a slow reading month for me. Since I don’t have a current list of books I’ve read, I thought I’d share some of my recommendations for books based on movies or shows you might enjoy. From historical dramas to science-fiction steeped in suspense, I hope you’ll be inspired to read one or more of these books and that you’ll love them just as much as I do.

#5 Relic by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child

I read Relic almost three years ago and it still remains one of my all-time favorite books. A mix between Night at the Museum and Jurassic Park, it’s the ideal blend of suspense and science fiction. Set in New York City’s Museum of Natural History, there is a mysterious person—or thing—wreaking havoc as museum guests and even guards fall prey to danger. In the midst of all the chaos, the museum is preparing to launch a new exhibit that just might be the center of the mystery. Will they figure things out before the opening gala or will it prove to be a nightmare? Enjoy this fascinating, fast-paced mystery that serves as the first in the series following FBI Agent Pendergast.

#4 Louisiana Longshot by Jana Deleon

If you need a good laugh, then Jana Deleon’s Miss Fortune Mysteries is the series for you. Set in the small town of Sinful, Louisiana, our heroine is an undercover CIA agent. A tomboy at heart, Fortune has to assume the identity of a beauty queen librarian. Will she blow her cover? Especially, when she comes across a body not even 24 hours after her arrival. Fortune reminds me of one of my all-time favorite movie characters portrayed by Sandra Bullock in Miss Congeniality. There are also some neighbors who might be more helpful than she first thought, bringing some subtle RED vibes to the story. Louisiana Longshot is a must-read for comedic mystery enthusiasts.

#3 Shadow on the Crown by Patricia Bracewell

Shadow on the Crown follows the life of Emma of Normandy starting at age 15 when she is sent to marry the King Athelred of England, a much older stranger. Now a queen, Emma finds herself in a precarious position as she’s yet to bare an heir. Her new position brings with it many perks as well as adversaries. I came across this book after watching Vikings Valhalla on Netflix and wanting to know more about Queen Emma. If you enjoy Vikings Valhalla or Reign, then you should give Shadow on the Crown a try!

#2 Six Tudor Queens by Alison Weir

Chances are you’ve heard of King Henry VIII, most notoriously known for his six wives. If you know every word to Six The Musical or binged episodes of The Tudors—this series is an absolute must. Each book is written from the perspective of one of the wives beginning with Katherine of Aragon (Book 1) and ending with Katharine Parr (Book 6). It is absolutely fascinating and gives you a deeper dive into their lives before they become queen and after—for the lucky few who survived the marriage.

#1 The House at Riverton by Kate Morton

The House at Riverton is one of those books that captures your attention and has you desperate for more. I’d say it’s a mix between A Place to Call Home and Downton Abbey, as has elements of the present that take us back to the main story set in the summer of 1924. If you prefer books that are happy and lighthearted—I don’t recommend you add this to your reading list. However, if you don’t mind emotional tragedy, then this just might become a favorite of yours.
