My Top 5 Book Recs from February 2025
There are few things I love more than a good theme and this curated list of love/heart-inspired reads plays on the month of February’s well-known theme. This curated list of my top five book recs for the past month tackle love in it’s various forms: maternal, protective, unrequited, young/first, and jealous. Each are flawed in their own way—some more than others—but they all speak to the human experience of love. I hope you’ll peruse the list and if one catches your eye, please consider purchasing from this post’s featured local bookstore: Thank You Books in Birmingham, Alabama.
#5 It’s in His Kiss by Julia Quinn
I first came across the Bridgertons with the popular Netflix series and I have to say that the books are better. I think the series has deviated a little too much (especially, making Penn very unlikable) and I feel like with the multiple storylines, the lead romance gets lost in the shuffle. Each book focuses on one of the Bridgerton children and their love stories, going into greater detail. This is something that I appreciate. It’s in His Kiss focuses on Hyacinth and it was the first book in the series I’ve read where the main character hasn’t been portrayed much on the show since she is still young. Hyacinth has become my favorite character because of her quick wit, love of mystery, and strong will. I highly recommend this read as it is one of the best in the series.
#4 The Love Season by Elin Hilderbrand
This book is recommended with my fellow foodies in mind. One of the characters is a former chef and Elin Hilderbrand always does a fabulous job when it comes to describing food and flavors. Multiple perspectives keep this book moving at a breakneck pace and leave you wondering what secrets will be uncovered. While this isn’t necessarily my favorite of Elin’s books, it did keep my interest.
#3 Honey, Baby, Mine by Laura Dern & Diane Ladd
Honey, Baby, Mine is a book that I will insist you listen to instead of read. Laura Dern and Diane Ladd narrate the audiobook and bring so much passion, vulnerability, and humor to the memoir. It covers any and every topic as the mother-daughter-duo dig into the past—both pain and fond memories. It’s a heartfelt tribute to the love (and sometimes frustration) between mothers and daughers.
#2 Murder for Love by Nell Goddin
Enter my top genre: cozy mystery. Nell Goddin’s Molly Sutton Mysteries are fascinating and have me ready to open a B&B in the French countryside—mainly for the fresh croissants. I usually pride myself on being able to figure out a mystery, but this one kept me guessing. Murder for Love is the perfect blend of intrigue and comfort.
#1 Just Take My Heart by Mary Higgins Clark
Mary Higgins Clark earned her title as Queen of Suspense and Just Take My Heart is a prime example of her unmatched talent. Readers are thrown into a high profile trial determining the guilt or innocence of a man accused of taking the life of his estranged wife, a talented and beloved actress. Emily Wallace, the prosecutor of the case, must battle whether she believes the person whose guilt she is trying to prove is actually guilty of the crime. And unbeknownst to her, another threat looms close to home. Are the two related? I’ve read a lot of Mary Higgins Clark and this book has become one of my favorites!
