My Top 5 Book Recs from April 2025

April just might be my favorite reading month so far this year. The page-turners comprising this selection are tied to my love for spring—from countryside estates to seaside destinations and colorful imagery. Enjoy a mix of delightful drama, childhood fantasy, mysterious suspense, and contemporary literature.

#5 Anne of Green Gables by L. M. Montgomery

I was gifted Anne of Green Gables by a friend and it has become such a treasured read. I love Anne’s outlook on life and find the character to be positive and imaginative. She is so uniquely herself which is a refreshing in this day and age. It is a timeless, coming-of-age novel and I cannot believe I hadn’t read it before.

#4 I Heard That Song Before by Mary Higgins Clark

Mary Higgins Clark is a staple in my reading list, and for good reason. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book of hers that I didn’t like. This one is set on an estate where a cloud of doubt hangs over its owner because of mysterious deaths he’s linked to in the past. When a body is discovered on the property, it sets in motion a frenzied media following and a high-profile trial. While the book starts out a little slow, be patient it quickly picks up and the background information is essential.

#3 The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum

Growing up, I could not get enough of The Wizard of Oz movie—to the point that no one in my family really every wants to watch it. After Wicked came out last year, I immediately put this book on my Christmas wish list—along with blue gingham pajamas and some sparkly ruby (house) slippers. The book was just as delightful and mesmerizing as the movie. And, I absolutely adore the artful cover of this special release.

#2 The Southern Side of Paradise by Kristy Woodson Harvey

Kristy Woodson Harvey is by far my favorite Southern modern-day author. It’s to the point that I re-read this book in her Peachtree Bluff series last month. The books follow three sisters and their mom in a picturesque beachside town in Georgia. The Southern Side of Paradise highlights the youngest daughter, Emerson—I won’t say more because I don’t want to spoil the first two books. Kristy creates complex characters, intriguing plots, and the detailed descriptions of the settings are swoon-worthy for this interior design lover.

#1 Broken Country by Clare Leslie Hall

Introducing a love triangle and family drama all rolled up into one, Clare Leslie Hall’s latest novel will captivate and thrill you with its many twists and turns. This has become one of my all-time favorite books as it includes some of my favorite subject matters—mystery, romance, historical, etc. Set in the English countryside, the book shifts between past and present as it weaves together a story from different perspectives. I will warn you, tears will be shed but it is well worth the heartache.
