This Tennis-Themed Tableware Serves Up Effortless Style
Thank you, Susan Brown, artist and founder of For Pete’s Sake Pottery, for providing these gorgeous pieces for me to style! Each features a hand-painted design for an artful accent or focal point to dress up your table setting. I couldn’t have done this without Susan, Mrs. Amy for the ideal location, and sweet Brooke for helping me source the flowers. (Hint: a few are from her flower farm!) Below, I hope you’ll enjoy my creative vision and story behind this sweet setting!
Love & Lemons
She’s met her match, and now it’s time to recruit the bridesmaids that will join her team over a lovely court-side luncheon.
Just like in tennis, this upcoming match was love from the start—only in this case, it means a great deal more than nothing. Who better to stand by her side than those closest companions who’ve been there through both the sweet and sour moments of life? After all, what are best friends for if not to help you squeeze lemonade when life hands you lemons? Thankfully, today is focused on all things sweet!
Sunny Sentiments
Bursting with brilliant blooms, this centerpiece exudes delightful charm—each bloom carefully selected according to its meaning. Yellow roses herald friendship, joy, and caring as they serve as the primary posy. White daisies lend a lighthearted note signifying innocence and new beginnings. Paying tribute to endurance, lasting affection, and the friendship of those gathered, zinnias offer bold texture. Rounding out the display are white hydrangeas which impart purity, grace, and abundance. True to theme, lemons make an appearance both as the centerpiece and to ground the leaves reimagined as place cards.
Accent plates donning a fresh green-and-white hand-painted glaze inspire the surrounding setting. A striped overlay adorns the table as it emphasizes the design encircling the plate’s rim. White beaded dishware provides a crisp backdrop, while the something blue napkin tucked in between creates eye-catching contrast. Featuring the setting’s signature fruit, glass tumblers serve as a subtle colorful flourish. And, no design of mine is complete without a hint of vintage style—a pair of tennis rackets and a heart-shaped basket overflowing with tennis balls.
Sweet Spot
It’s not a party until there’s something sweet! From fresh berries and macarons embellished with a fitting icing design to limoncello spritzers, there’s a little something to satisfy everyone’s craving.
